Bryan Adams :: Exposed

Bryan Adams doesn’t need any presentations. What maybe not everyone knows, even though he talks about it frequently, is that the famous singer lived a good part of his adolescence in Cascais. In an interview, Brian confesses that it was in Portugal where he bought his first records and started to get seriously interested into music. Besides this, one of the best memories he has from the time he lived here is of the Atlantic Ocean, his privileged neighbour for all those years and close to which he, and his family, used to do picnics at the then deserted beach of Guincho.

Something else that not all of us know is that his artistic talents weren’t limited to music and guitar mastery. Bryan Adams surprised all of us with a peculiar technical knowledge and sensibility for photography.

At the Cascais Cultural Centre there some of his most notable pieces of art in this area are exhibited . Walking around the exhibition we are surprised by familiar faces, but to which Bryan Adams adds, with perfect pictorial nature, remembering the most detailed charcoal portraits or renaissance oils.

From the smiling and almost informal Queen of England, to Salman Rushdie bent on himself, passing through the convincing Mourinho and the most beautiful divas of the Portuguese Fado. Bryan Adams offers us an authentic voyage through the soul of a photographer, seen through his shrewd objective. Besides his portraying side, the exhibition also hosts an area dedicated to soldiers, victims of different wars and combats, displayed in a raw manner, yet nearly epic and poetic. These show the harsh marks of war.

After visiting this exhibition it is most likely that you will question yourself if Bryan Adams is a better photographer or musician? One thing is unquestionable: artistic sensibility runs through his veins.

Bryan states that he would like to have, one day, a home in Portugal. We can only wish and believe that it will be in Cascais. It is always worth returning to the places where you have been happy before!
