Cascais :: A summer with doors wide open to welcome you
In the north hemisphere, the summer solstice happened on the 21st June and with it officially arrives probably the most desired season for most of people, the warm summer. However, in Cascais the summer season starts way before. Indifferent to holiday agendas and calendar impositions, mild temperature, days of blue sky and shinning sun beams make their presence felt around 300 days a year. Now that season has already started, we would like to let you know all that Cascais has to offer, during the year’s longest days.
Put your swimsuit on, or some fresh clothes and come and take a peek at the beaches, the terraces and the most impressive views that this season has to offer around here.
If you don’t live here or have never visited us, maybe you don’t know that Cascais has over a dozen beaches, a seawall with nearly 3km that can be walked along while gazing at the sea, many terraces belonging to bars and restaurants all along the coastline and marginal road, refined lounge areas where lively sunset parties take place, many of them literally with your feet on the sand, cycle ways and breath-taking sunsets. In Cascais, to make the most of all this, you don’t even have to wait for the summer. However, it is during this season that everything gains a special flavour. A light and refreshing lunch in the shade of a terrace, after a morning of diving with your family or friends, dinner for two, enjoying the warm nights, lit by the moon that spreads its silver beams over the ocean, the sandcastles, passion and friendships discovered on those summer nights, always so special and unforgettable. The ice cream in every colour and flavour imaginable.. and of course the tasty, typical “Berlin Cakes”!
The good news doesn’t end here. These spots can be easily reached through different ways: by car, by train, by bus, by bike or even walking. The truth is that most of Cascais’ beaches are at a walking distance from residential areas and from most hotels. Only benefits!
In Cascais the bathing season started on the 1st May and ends on the 30th September for all beaches within this municipality, apart from Abano Beach, Guincho and Crismina where it started on the 1st June. All beaches have lifeguards, equipped with the necessary rescue means and most of have been awarded blue flags, the symbol of sand and water quality.
Cascais is one of the most sought-over touristic centres in Portugal, the beaches being one of the main attractions in the municipality. You can understand why. Among its 17 beaches all of them are different, combining natural spaces with dunes, cliffs and rocks. Besides this, during the bathing season, water temperature is always around 17ºC, a clear invitation for long dips in the sea, while air temperature frequently reaches 30ºC. The sea is usually calm and therefore suitable for little children to make the most of beach days, safely.
Beaches in Cascais gather all the best conditions for practicing different sports: good waves for surfing – Carcavelos beach and Guincho beach being the references of international surfers, as excellent beaches for practicing this sport – favourable winds for windsurf and kite surf, great currents for paddle and diving, vast sandy areas for playing beach volleyball or even for an energizing jog. Personal imagination and will is the only limit for each one of us.
Maybe there is nothing else that needs to be said. An image speaks for a thousand words and those that we are about to offer you speak for themselves.
