Dream Houses :: Osmosis with Nature
In a quiet corner in Malveira da Serra, between Sintra Mountains’ trim against the Ocean’s blue horizon, there is a special house, a shelter among the ancient cliffs. On a summer day, feeling the fresh breeze from the greenish Sintra Mountain and the blue horizon, which invites everyone into a fresh ocean dive, we decided to visit it and tell you its secrets.
“The house over the cliffs”, as it’s known, hides itself from the most curious eyes, thanks to all the vegetation in its gardens and the rocky cliff which consolidates and protects it.
Part of a property of more than 5.000 m2, this manor house in Malveira da Serra, Cascais, is the result of the expansion of an old house built over the cliff. Lined by the solid and noble pink granite, extracted from this same location, the new house ended up surrounding the old one, while keeping the wisdom of the original design, painted by the past, in simple harmony with the new contemporary architecture building.
The main guideline for this recovery and expansion project was the concern of landscape integration between the building and all other elements. Located in the heart of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, respect for the surrounding nature and visual impact of the construction were determinants to assure that this building remained sober yet comfortable.
In a 180º rotation, from the bedrooms and living room windows you can see the sea, Guincho and Sintra Mountain. As if that wasn’t enough, the surrounding landscape has still more to offer, with a farm over the garden terraces, all of them with an astonishing view, all this and summing the beautiful swimming pool with a view over Cascais.
Walking along its paths, it is easy to imagine the different stories it guards, whether in the old stonework, the century tiles or in the fountains that let you dream as you listen to the echo of strings of water filling the old stone tanks. Ivy threads embrace the walls, as signs of time itself, the centennial fig tree offering a generous and leafy shade, while the hydrangeas seem to disdain the heat, in their serene colours.
The “House over the Cliffs” is a house designed and conceived for a family. Besides the main suite, projected for the original owners, the main wing offers other spacious suites, for children or guests, all of them with the comfort of a private bathroom.
Space and light are characteristics that better define it, with large common and private areas and even a big hall for special parties with windows opening over the landscape.
The best of this apparent isolation is the fact that the house seems to be sunk in quietness while being close to everything. It is only 15 minutes away from Cascais and 5 minutes from the beach of Guincho. If you practice golf you will be happy to know that this house is only 15 minutes away from Quinta da Marinha Golf Course, Oitavos Dunes Club and Penha Longa Golf Club. It is also only 25 minutes away from Lisbon and 30 minutes from the international airport. It couldn’t be better!
If your dream is to live surrounded by nature without missing out on the advantages of enjoying the best that urban life has to offer, there is a discrete house, in the middle of Sintra Ridge waiting for your visit.
Special thanks to the owners of the house and to Marisa Azevedo/RE/MAX, Real Estate Agent responsible for the commercialisation of this house.
